About the Artists
Khand is a one-man cosmic ambient project from the Massachusetts, USA. Started in 1998 with the aim of fusing ambient, keyboard and neoclassical aesthetics, Khand takes in influences from the ancient world, space and epic fantasy literature, creating lush sonic reveries that invite the listener to imagine lonely distant worlds far off and long lost. Khand’s first two albums can be downloaded for free at www.hiarctow.com
Goatcraft – Self described as Necroclassical Music, Texas-based Goatcraft creates piano-centric atmospheric music. Misanthropic and foreboding, Goatcraft’s music draws on horror movie soundtracks, classical and ambient music whilst thematically calling on art, literature and mysticism for influences. Goatcraft’s most recent album The Blasphemer is currently available through I Voidhanger Records.
Ryan Colgan is a California based musician and visual artist. Having previously played in various metal bands, he has recently turned his hand to creating ambient music. Ryan is also responsible for all of the visual art that accompanies this compilation. For more of Ryan’s music click here.
Encomiast – Formed in 1999, Encomiast is principally the work of composer Ross Hagen. This highly minimal, atmospheric music project plays with timbre, found sounds and other non-traditional elements to create diverse and immersive soundworlds. To date Encomiast has released numerous recordings, many of which can be found on the project’s Bandcamp page.
Degenerocracy is both an ambient and a black metal project from Toronto CA, creating dark, immersive soundscapes. Degenerocracy describe its artistic intent as “Overcoming nihilism, embracing traditionalism, and visions of the decadence from within our spiritual void”. For more music click here.
Tiphareth are an emerging ambient music project from Baton Rouge, Louisiana. For more music click here.
Ignis Solis is a new side-project of Texas-based Goatcraft. Representing a lighter side of composer Longoat’s musical aspirations, Ignis Solis utilises synthesiser textures and simple melodic figures that reveal their intent through increasing depth of arrangement.
Ireland’s Síol Na Gréine (translated as ‘Seed of the Sun’) plays guitar-based, classical-influenced soundscapes. Rather grandiosely self-described as ‘spiritual music for a spiritless age’, SNG creates work that is immersive and reflective whilst taking the listener through a steady musical journey. Síol Na Gréine have to date released three albums, all of which can be downloaded for free from www.hiarctow.com.
Cryosyncopy creates Sci-fi influenced, industrial-infused dark ambient. The track Freezing is taken from the new album Culmination 2, which can be downloaded for free from www.hiarctow.com – along with a number of other selections from Cryosyncopy’s discography.
Cryostasium from Massachusetts, USA play a twisted black metal/ambient hybrid.
Formed in 2002, the project has chalked up an extensive catalog of recordings that can be found on the band’s Bandcamp page. Cryostasium describes the track Renewal as having been inspired by the bizarre death ritual central to the science fiction novel and film Logan’s Run.
